Octopus’s Garden

August 9, 2010

I’ve always been intriqued by the Beatles’ song ‘Octopus’s Garden’, sung and written by Ringo. Perhaps there were a lot of small groups of friends who grew up together in the 60s who had one friend in their group who was ‘the Ringo’. We had such a friend. His name was Victor Genova. Although he played the fool, he was an intelligent and thoughtful young man. And he grew up to be a terrific human being. Like Ringo he was unpretentious. If you told him he was intelligent he would have been embarassed. So he went out and married a very beautiful girl named Linda. Linda was smarter than Victor. She might have been smarter than all of us. Victor’s face is in the shark’s mouth in this illustration. The nude behind them is not Linda. It is Simone de Beauvoir.
