Or we are

November 21, 2011

What is property? I did my master thesis on Karl Marx. He talked about property a lot. Sometimes it was an object. Or real estate. Sometimes it was a person. Or the means of production. Now it is an idea. Someone coins the phrase “intellectual property”. The Theoryof Relativity was first articulated by Einstein. He doesn’t own it.  If there hasn’t been an original idea since the ancient Greeks (and I believe that is true) what are we talking about? People make claims on a whole variety of things. An art collector may claim that he owns a Van Gogh. Did he paint it? Each of us owns… nothing. Things are in our possession for a while. And then are gone. Or we are.

  1. I like this. I just got done reading about “The Commons” of England and medieval times. All the property at that time belonged to everybody(….or nobody).

In one South American country there was a water management company that had the water rights and claimed that they owned the rainwater too. Read the book and documentary of “The Corporation”

Where will it end. Our self-destruction probably.
    Thanks. Keep Blogging. Keep Writing.

interesting idea, ownership comes from an exchange and in most cases it is money. Through that exchange we come to the term ownership but it also means ONLY the owner has a right to it. Nice site will keep a look out and thanks for the comments. My email missed it.
