Elysium

Sunday afternoon. Suffering from 2 much scotch. Mixed with an old body. And I’m feeling almost listless. When I ran across this blog. Fit my feelings of that moment. Elysium. The word is a poem.

ELYSIUM DREAMS

[addressing his troops]
Maximus: Fratres!
[Cavalry addresses Maximus]
Maximus: Three weeks from now, I will be harvesting my crops. Imagine where you will be, and it will be so. Hold the line! Stay with me! If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you’re already dead!
[Cavalry laughs]
Maximus: Brothers, what we do in life… echoes in eternity.


How’s that for motivation? This speech is so sobering and always gives me shivers. To think that what we do right now will echo through eternity just as our ancestors actions are echoed even in our lives today. As we seek to right the wrongs of the past we must not forget the impact our actions will have on the future.
