a punishment channel

June 29, 2013

Near the EndCircuses. That’s all I can think of when I watch my wife watch the two murder trial developments on CNN. Zimmerman and Hernandez. I can imagine a special station devoted only to trials (murder, mayhem, and money). Can a punishment channel be far behind?

Beware the rise of Sulla

I love American politics. Of course I’m not listening to wall to wall attack ads. As for your politicians. I like Mitt Romney. He’s a spoiled rich kid but well intentioned. What’s worrisome is his supporters. Can he control the far right’s agenda if he’s elected? I think that there are a number of intelligent women in the Republican party, unfortunately not the high profile ones.

Barack is a gentleman. But has a hard sell. He is the leader in a country that is having some kind of mental breakdown. It has happened in other countries. As for the Democratic Party they seemed stocked with leadership, much of it female.

I am ‘left leaning’ but I think the conflict in America today is a result of a move in the country from a democracy to an oligarchy. The rest of the country, because of poverty, race, ignorance, has been alienated from the political process. Ronald Reagan gave these people hope. Unfortunately his policies moved things in the opposite direction.

There is a war of families in America. The families make up a portion of each party. The large under class is angry. And what the families fear most (more than each other) is the rise of the strong man. The dictator. If Americans don’t start working together, he’s coming.

I see no fear at FOX.

I was dreaming. About Eric Sevareid. I used to watch every evening on CBS news. He offered commentary. Sage wisdom.

I’m not sure that I always understood every commentary. I always felt that I had to work at it. But what is so obvious is the fair mindedness of the man. Today I don’t feel that I hear these words. At least on American television. May I say that I do hear it on Canadian television. You may call me a chauvinist.

When I watch CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, I find attempts. But fear. Fear to just state the facts. I see no fear at FOX.

What I fear the most is young people. They don’t seem upset. Enough. With a shrinking future, why do they not raise their voices. Forget the excuses. It is not their job to come up with excuses. Only to remind my generation and the one after us, that they are not doing their jobs.

Time for glib

I just can’t seem to get off this political dish. Something I noticed. A lot of the new conservative (I want to say far right) spokespersons for the Republican Party are young, beautiful, smart, women. I won’t go through their names. Its those looks as much as their ideas that gets them air time. That’s nothing new. At least they’re a relief from the Brycreme ads of their male counterparts. Is there a mandatory hair style for Republican public figures? Throw the democrats in there as well. There was something about Robert or John Kennedy pushing their hair off their eyes that was so appealing. Reminded me of Marilyn Monroe.
